This will be accomplished through tailoried co-explore technologies, practices and tools, in coordination with Elders and traditional experts. With the aim to co-create solutions that reduce our environmental impact increase socio-emotional wellness, self-empowerment, entrepreneurial and educational opportunities, and long-term sustainability. Positively impacting the participants involved, their families, communities and the environment. Coming from Indigenous heritage and working within Northern Canadian Communities, with a combined expertise of decades, we experienced, firsthand, the system-imposed resolutions in the North create interdependence with the funders and band-aid short-term resolutions. The deep-rooted passion for creating self-reliance and lasting change, brought founders, Chiefs, Elders and healers, together to found Indigenous Solutions in supporting individuals with traditional restoration programs, tailored skills training, addressing the basic needs of clean water, food security, skills development, and economic and employment opportunities. Our educational training program empowers Indigenous entrepreneurs, once successful, to train other Indigenous entrepreneurs across the North, creating a knowledge network of leaders with competitive skills. This model can be replicated yet tailored to individuals, agencies, organizations, and communities throughout Canada, designing innovative practices through tradition and technologies addressing the specific needs of each project, defining and further improving the process through data collection and evaluation.
Land Based Healing
The Creator has worked alongside a growing team of individuals who believe that healing from complex trauma, addiction, and recidivism is a journey. That journey takes time — and requires the ability to return to one's roots to heal through a sense of identity while also building the necessary skills to build a sense of pride, connection, and hope for the future. Working with our Elders and traditional teachers the participants learn what it takes to survive daily living on the land — and are nourished culturally and spiritually in this healing modality. Providing the opportunity to heal through the Anishinaabe way of life is what is offered at Gamikaan Bimaadiziwin at Bug Lake. The work at this camp is for restoration that is based on reciprocity, culture and land-based healing. The healing journey is for individuals who have entered a cycle of involvement with the justice system, risk-to-life activities and ongoing struggles with their mental health and addiction illness. The intention is for participants to embark on a journey of self-discovery as a path to recovery, and invite them to ground their healing through cultural, spiritual, and traditional teachings guided by the Seven Grandfather Teachings. The Indigenous Solutions team focuses on culturally appropriate solutions that focus on sustainability. We believe in connecting collaboratively with the professionals who work directly with the Indigenous population, such as policing, crowns, and child walfare in addressing the systemic barriers through relationship-building, connection to land, the Creator and to each other.
